Quest Center Opening Celebration A Success

by Jim Primus, Principal, Grand Rapids Christian High School

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:14

On September 5 & 6, hundreds of friends of Grand Rapids Christian Schools gathered at the Quest Center, the new gymnasium and fitness facility, located on the campus of Christian High to celebrate its grand opening.

Flagpole Dedication
On Friday, September 5, we dedicated the Veterans Memorial Flagpole. The flagpole was built to honor our graduates who have served in the Armed Forces. We are thankful for their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to God, humanity and country.

Sports Clinics
On Saturday, September 6, the morning started with exciting sports clinics, which included: wrestling, cheer, volleyball, and basketball for students in 3rd through 8th grade. Those participating in the basketball clinic enjoyed coaching by Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, former Orlando Magic players.

Tours
Later in the afternoon friends arrived for a tour of the Quest Center and enjoyed snacks at the new Meijer concessions, located in “The Nest” of the Quest Center. All concession purchases benefit Eagle Athletic Boosters. There was the Meijer Virtual Playground on-site, which allowed visitors to interact with a variety of technologies.

Quest Center Dedication
The evening included a dedication ceremony where Tom DeJonge, superintendent of Grand Rapids Christian Schools, explained the meaning of the Quest Center: “Through rigorous and robust academic, arts and athletic programs, Grand Rapids Christian High School challenges students in their lifelong quest to live according to God’s purpose. At the Quest Center, students and young athletes continue their pursuit, recognizing that all gifts come from God and are intended for his glory.”

Team Acrodunk
The evening concluded with a performance by Team Acrodunk, who amazed the audience with their extreme basketball dunking. The performance included three players sharing their Christian testimony-which was an inspiration to many. Team Acrodunk has performed at every NBA All-Star event since 1996. The evening was high energy, fun, and full of excitement.
